Become a Friend of The Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House

The Friends of the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House is a group of volunteers dedicated to raising awareness and funds to support the House and is always looking for new members.

The Friends are dedicated to serving the mission of PRMH through the following key initiatives:

  • Coordinating Hit ‘Em for the House, an Annual Golf & Tennis Outing and major fundraiser held at the beginning of June each year.
  • Supporting the Guest Chef Program with The Cooking Friends Group at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Cardiac Center Family Room and at Front & Erie by providing meals throughout the year to families whose children are undergoing treatment.

  • Promoting the Celebration of H.O.P.E. Award (Health, Opportunity, Potential, and Enrichment), offered to young individuals who have stayed at the House. The Award has provided these children with enrichment type activities including as musical instruments, art lessons, photography lessons, computers and much more.

Since 1990, The Friends have continued to support the House in many ways including providing:

  • An annual grant of over $100,000 towards the Houses’ operating expenses which includes subsidizing daily guest fees.

  • The Friends Family Emergency Fund, an annual grant of $30,000, for financial support of catastrophic non-medical expenses such as mortgage payments, car payments, utility payments, etc. that are incurred from extended family stays at the House.

  • Operating expenses for the Ronald McDonald Family Room on the Cardiac Center of the The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. The Family Room provides hospitality and support to the many families whose children’s critical condition requires the parent(s) to stay in the hospital.

Through the support of generous donors, the Friends have also:

  • Donated $500,000 to help build The Friends Playroom at Chestnut Street, a magical “forest” which includes a life size play house, tree house, puppet theatre, club house, reading loft, and a computer tree loaded with computer games.

  • Contributed $500,000 to the second Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House at Front and Erie to build the kitchen and dining room, the heart of every house.

  • Contributed $20,000 to help create the 45th guest bedroom at Chestnut Street by converting a TV lounge into a room with two queen beds and a full bath accommodating a family of five people.

If you would like to be involved in supporting the House, and have fun with a dynamic group of volunteers while doing it, consider joining The Friends.  Contact Abbie Hoffman for more information.
