Call to Artists: Founders’ Portraits

We invite artists of all ages to submit portraits of our co-founders, Dr. Audrey Evans and Jimmy Murray, on 11″ x 11″ paper, for possible inclusion in a wall of art in our new tower!

The Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House (PRMH), the first Ronald McDonald House in the world, was co-founded by Dr. Audrey Evans and Jimmy Murray in 1974. PRMH supports families of seriously ill children by providing lodging, meals, and transportation to and from the hospital. As part of our expansion project to more than double our current capacity, we are requesting submissions of portraits of our co-founders, which will be placed as part of a collage to honor their lifetime work for the organization and the families we serve in our new reception area.

Portraits will be placed next to other selected artworks in a manner similar to the image below:

About Dr. Audrey Evans

Dr. Evans has dedicated her career to helping treat children with cancer. In the medical community, she is known as a pioneer in the clinical study and treatment of childhood cancers and she built a world-renowned pediatric cancer program at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She is a co-founder of the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House, and it was her dream and determination that led to the inception of the very first Ronald McDonald House here in Philadelphia in 1974.

About Jimmy Murray

Jimmy Murray co-founded the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House and was instrumental in the opening of several Ronald McDonald Houses near pediatric hospitals across the United States and around the world. He has remained deeply committed to children and families by serving on numerous non-profit boards and continues to act as an ambassador for the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House.

 

CONTEST GUIDELINES:

Each submission should include a portrait of Dr. Evans or Jimmy Murray interpreted through your own creative lens.

  • Artwork must be submitted on 11″x11″ plain white paper. 
    Paper is available to be picked up at the front desk of our Chestnut Street House (3925 Chestnut Street). If you would like a larger amount of paper for a classroom or art workshop, please contact Michael Kelly at mkelly@philarmh.org.
  • Any mediums are welcome. Use pencil, colored pencil, ink, pen, marker, crayon, watercolor, collage, paint, computer software…whatever inspires you!

Hand deliveries should take place between 9am and 4pm on weekdays.

Eligibility: The Ronald McDonald Founder Portraits is open to all artists, including students, emerging, and established artists. Individuals that have met Dr. Evans and Jimmy Murray are especially encouraged to participate.

Winning artists will be notified on November 16, 2018, and will be invited to an Opening Reception in early 2019 (date to be determined).

Terms of Agreement:
Winning pieces will either be reproduced digitally or used in their original form, depending on the location chosen for the piece. All submissions will become property of the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House and may be reproduced in various publications and/or used for display at either of their two Philadelphia locations. Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House will not be responsible for any damage incurred during delivery to the collection address; will not be responsible for any damage to artwork, loss of artwork, or theft of artwork; will not be accountable for any costs of artwork production or submission.
