Volunteer at RMHC of the Philadelphia Region
The heart of RMHC of the Philadelphia Region is our Volunteer program. There is so much that our volunteers do to help make our programs comfortable and supportive places for our families.
The caring and cheerful volunteers of Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Philadelphia Region are the first voices families hear on the telephone and the first smiling faces they see at the door. Whether it’s planning and coordinating an evening family activity, supplying and cooking a meal for the families through our Guest Chef Program, being a part of our spring cleaning crew, or committing to a weekly shift, our volunteers makeour Ronald McDonald House programs a home. We are now seeking volunteer van drivers to transport our families to and from the hospital to visit their children each day. Click here to learn more about this opportunity. Volunteers staff our Houses from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week.
We have three different shifts: 9 a.m.-1 p.m., 1 p.m.-6 p.m., and 6 p.m.-9 p.m. At least six people volunteer on each shift.
All volunteers must be at least 18 years old and be responsible for following the schedule. There is a minimum commitment to volunteering twice a month for one year. Volunteer duties are varied depending on the day of the week, time of day, and occupancy rate.
Below is a list of some duties that volunteers participate in at our Ronald McDonald Houses:
- Greet and welcome families and visitors to the House
- Register families into the House
- Answer phone calls from hospital personnel, families, and visitors
- Assist with mailings
- Provide support for special events
- Write thank you letters to donors
- Assist with clerical or data entry work
- Keep the kitchen and public areas well organized
- Assist volunteer groups with the evening meal
- Drive the van at scheduled times or as needed (additional training necessary)
While the list describes typical volunteer duties, our Ronald McDonald Houses are successful in serving families due to the flexibility of our volunteers. We depend on people who are willing to pitch in wherever needed.
